PAHO and USAID bolster Jamaica’s COVID-19 Response

The WHO/Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Jamaica country office, with the assistance of USAID, donated essential items to support Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and Wellness’ (MOHW) ongoing fight against COVID-19. Items included a high capacity printer, mobile phones, android tablets, laptops, infrared non-co­ntact thermometers, backpacks and digital thermometers The donation is part of a $US700 000 COVID-19 response package to improve Jamaica’s capacity to prevent, detect, monitor and control outbreaks of COVID-19 and improve operational support. The next phase in the package will include an ambulance, intensive care unit beds, VHF radios, satellite phones and scanners. As part of the package, an isolation facility at Sangster International Airport will be retrofitted and internet bandwidth to key health sites will be expanded. The support package is also designed to enhance the MOHW risk communication and community engagement interventions.
