Peru: protective equipment and surveillance support with funding from Japan

24 September 2020

The Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO) recently supported Peru’s COVID-19 response backed by funding from the Government of Japan.

WHO, with Japan’s support, will contribute to strengthening infection prevention and control (IPC) programs and risk communications activities in five selected hospitals in Lima, Callao, La Libertad, Lambayeque and Piura.

WHO’s assistance included the delivery of a stock of personal protective equipment (PPE) consisting of 5000 masks, 5000 pairs of gloves, 5000 gowns, 5000 pieces of head protection, 800 protective suits and 20 N95 respirators.

Support to hospitals also continues through the provision of cleaning kits and disinfection activities.

Japan has provided valuable aid to the Americas throughout the pandemic.

WHO thanks all donors and partners who have contributed to fund the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to combat COVID-19. A special appreciation goes to Member States and other contributors who provided flexible funds, making it possible for WHO to deliver a coherent, strategic and broad response.
