The WHO Regional Office for the Americas (PAHO) has donated four invasive ventilators to the Ministry of Health for use in intensive care units (ICU) to assist with its national response to COVID-19. The use of invasive and non-invasive ventilators is a life-saving method of assisting extremely ill patients breath while they recover from the disease.
The ventilators, US$ 95 000, are compact and support both invasive and non-invasive applications which will give medical providers flexibility in treating patients.
WHO also donated six months’ worth of additional accessories to support the use of the equipment.
WHO thanks all donors and partners who have contributed to fund the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to combat COVID-19. A special appreciation goes to Member States and other contributors who provided flexible funds, making it possible for WHO to deliver a coherent, strategic and broad response.
