The World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) announced critical support to WHO in April, providing US$ 26.9 million towards Yemen’s preparedness and response to COVID-19. The funds will finance a new emergency project designed to strengthen Yemen’s fragile systems for public health preparedness, including the detection, containment, diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19.
Most of the funds — $23.4 million — will finance the procurement of medical supplies and equipment, training and implementation expenses, and will include the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing health facilities.
This new World Bank support for the Yemen COVID-19 project comes at a crucial time as cases continue to increase worldwide.
