Dr. Soe Nyunt-U officially launched the new website of WHO Philippines, which features new look and content.
A few days before its target launch, Dr. Soe Nyunt-U performing his last official function as WHO Representative in the Philippines led the country office in launching the website of WHO Philippines in 23 November 2012. It is now live, with exciting new features such as interactive videos of SPEED (Surveillance in Post Extreme Emergencies and Disasters), SIM (Self Instructional Module) of EINC (Essential Intrapartum and Newborn Care), iFLY advocacy video for promoting healthy change in the workplace as well as various news videos.
Aside from fulfilling the web migration’s overall objective of improving the look and content , the new website also provides the public and key stakeholders with information on work being done in the Philippines as well as knowledge and training materials that can be used by the public for learning, research and advocacy.
E-Learning Tools on the Web
The need to build up and sustain capacity have led to the use of non-traditional learning tools, particularly interactive and self-instructional modules and videos.
The Philippines website is a portal to such learning tools. Working in collaboration with the Department of Health, and funding support from Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and the Joint Programme on Maternal and Neonatal Health (JPMNH), the WHO Philippines has developed e-learning tools to scale up and sustain public health initiatives.
The SPEED video is produced and created as part of SPEED’s advocacy and training tool for health workers in times of disaster. The interactive video is an online tutorial and refresher on SPEED procedures to enable responders to effectively follow the step by step procedure, once SPEED is activated in the disaster-affected areas. It is available in four (4) languages, English, Filipino, Cebuano and Ilocano.
The EINC SIM, in English and Filipino language, is developed as a tool that can be used by health providers in gaining knowledge and skills on EINC. It is a self-learning tool that aims to reach as many health professionals in a short time to enable them to implement the EINC protocols in their workplaces. The SIM contains video chapters with pre and post tests, EINC Pocket Guide and materials which can also be printed.
Both SPEED and EINC SIM are made available to ease up and facilitate learning processes during training, in both formal (in the academe) and informal learning/orientation sessions. It also gives the learner an opportunity to review and refresh knowledge at any given time, even without an instructor, teacher or facilitator.
The website also housed advocacy videos like the iFLY for promoting health in the workplace, video on drowning as well as news videos of milestone events that took place recently.
