Target regimen profiles for tuberculosis treatment, 2023 update

Overview

To inform the research and development targets for funders and developers, the World Health Organization (WHO) has developed updated target regimen profiles (TRPs) for TB treatment.

TRPs were developed for the treatment of rifampicin-susceptible TB (RS-TB), rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB) and for a pan-TB treatment regimen. For each of the TRPs, the document outlines minimal and optimal requirements (or targets) across thirteen characteristics, such as efficacy, safety and duration. Trade-offs between these characteristics and cross-cutting aspects relevant to all new regimens are also discussed.
