Accelerating progress towards health-related Sustainable Development Goals

Insights and recommendations from the Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-Being for All 2019–2025

Overview

The Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All (SDG3 GAP) was launched in 2019 by 13 multilateral health, development and humanitarian agencies to strengthen collaboration and accelerate progress on the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In 2024, an independent evaluation concluded that the GAP framework had not delivered as intended and could not be sustained. While acknowledging the significant efforts and investments made through the GAP and remaining committed to closer collaboration in support of countries achieving the SDGs, the signatory agencies agreed to bring the initiative to a close in 2025.

This report aims to reflect on the GAP’s six-year journey, capturing key lessons learned and highlighting forward-looking recommendations to be considered by future collaborative efforts in global health.
