Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) – primarily chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma – are a major and growing public health challenge in the WHO South-East Asia Region, responsible for nearly 12% of all deaths. This report, Chronic Respiratory Diseases in South-East Asia: Burden, Risk Factors and Services for Prevention and Management, highlights the burden of disease. It outlines the environmental, behavioural and occupational risk factors driving the burden. The report also assesses gaps in health services, revealing limited access to essential diagnostics and medicines in many countries. By combining data, country experiences, and actionable solutions, it provides policymakers, practitioners, and partners with a roadmap to strengthen CRD prevention and management across the Region, reduce premature deaths.
