Regional Consultation to develop Regional Strategic Framework on Social Determinants of Health Actions in South-East Asia (2023–2030)
Report of a Regional Consultation, New Delhi, 2-4 August 2022
Overview
The Regional Consultation report reflects Member States’ commitments to address the social, economic, and environmental causes of health and health inequities by charting out multi-sectoral strategic actions engaging all relevant stakeholders at the national and sub-national levels, applying the ‘Health-in-All Policies’ (HiAP) approach.
Through this consultative meeting, the draft “Regional Strategic Framework on Social Determinants of Health Actions in South-East Asia (2023–2030)” was presented and received significant inputs from participants. Participants highlighted the need for a deeper understanding of the complexity and evolving nature of social determinants of health.
The WHO South-East Asia Regional Office successfully convened the consultation with multisectoral partners, especially from non-health sectors. Engagement with such organizations is a key part of the strategy to bring about concerted actions to address the determinants of health and accelerate sustainable development.
The report outlines a few succinct, pragmatic, and comprehensive recommendations for countries to follow up on and implement through collaborative action.
