| Donor alert

Overview
On 14 August 2024, WHO declared the upsurge of Mpox in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its spread to neighbouring countries a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). There has been widespread transmission of Mpox across multiple continents, with rising case numbers, cross-border spread and the emergence of clades with different transmission modes all evidence of the disease’s potential to affect international health security. As of 31 October 2024, more than 20 000 cases of Mpox have been confirmed across 80 countries. This resurgence underscores the disease's potential to impact international health security, necessitating a coordinated global response.
