Overview

This report summarises the development of a candidate International Standard (IS) for antiNipah Virus antibodies, and the collaborative study to evaluate its suitability to serve as an IS for use in serological assays. The candidate IS consisted of a freeze-dried pool of serum samples from 36 convalescent individuals from Bangladesh and Malaysia. The preparation was formulated at MHRA, South Mimms site, and tested in parallel with a panel of 9 other samples in a multi-centre international collaborative study. Overall, 18 laboratories from 9 countries tested the panel in 35 Nipah specific serological assays comprising of 16 ELISAs and 19 neutralisation tests.
