WHO Guideline Development Group for Therapeutics for Ebola Virus Disease
Expert biographies
     Overview
The Case Management team from World Health Organization (WHO) and World Health Emergencies (WHE) Programme is planning the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Guideline Development Group (GDG), focus on therapeutics, due to the new published evidence concerning efficacy of new EVD medications that have been recently approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The objective of this GDG is to create a new WHO guideline on the use of therapeutics for EVD. The GDG will assess the scientific evidence through a systematic review and provide new GRADE- based recommendations. The new guidelines will also guide the implementation of therapeutics in patients with EVD, as part of the comprehensive case management plan (new biodesign of treatment centers, optimized supportive care and new therapeutics). This comprehensive plan will aim to deliver higher standards care and ultimately reduce the case fatality rate of EVD in current and future outbreaks.
The role of the GDG members is to support the guideline development through participation in GDG meetings and supporting guideline development activities. The provisional list of GDG members, who are experts and frontline providers in the last EVD outbreaks can be found here.
