This document describes WHO’s role mandate and current activities related to the 2009 Political Declaration and Plan of Action on International cooperation towards an Integrated and Balanced Strategy to counter the World Drug Problem, adopted by the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in 2009.
It summarizes WHO’s activities in the areas of: prevention of drug use and treatment of drug use disorders; prevention and management of drug-related bloodborne infections, including HIV and viral hepatitis; and improved access to controlled medicines. This document is not intended as an outline of WHO’s future activities in these areas.
