Webinar for the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia Region (SEARO)

TQS (Tobacco Questions for Surveys) is a subset of Key Questions from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) and Global Youth Tobacco Survey (TQS-Youth). These questions can be included in tobacco use surveys as per survey’s needs and capacities at the country level. The intent is to standardize the tobacco questions in country’s national health surveys for uniformity, comparability, and measurements of global trends of tobacco epidemic.

The CDC Foundation, in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia, is organizing a Tobacco Questions for Surveys (TQS) and Tobacco Questions for Surveys of Youth (TQS-Youth) Regional Webinar for SEAR countries. 

The duration of the webinar was 90-minutes. It was conducted via virtual mode using Zoom , as per below timings: 

a. 9:30 pm - 11:00 pm EDT (EDT, Atlanta, Georgia, USA) on 19 October 2021; and

b. 7:00 am - 8:30 am IST (IST, Uttar Pradesh, India) on 20 October 2021. 

Objectives of the Webinar:

  1. To provide an introduction of TQS and TQS-Youth booklets.
  2. To provide an overview of how tobacco questions can be integrated into adult and youth surveys and what technical assistance may be available for implementation.
  3. To discuss how data from the TQS and TQS-Youth questions can be used to help inform tobacco control and prevention strategies globally.

Target Audience:

Tobacco control representatives and surveillance focal points from the WHO SEARO region. The invitees included Tobacco control and surveillance focal point from the Ministry of Health, representative from the Department of Statistics, representative from the survey implementing agency, and representative from the civil society organizations, supporting tobacco control and surveillance activities at the country level.
