Regional Meeting on Physical Activity

Insufficient physical activity is one of the leading risk factors for death worldwide, including in the WHO South-East Asia Region, where NCDs cause around 8.5 million deaths every year, many of them premature. The available data shows that the prevalence of physical inactivity among adults is 15% and among adolescents is as high as 74% in the WHO South-East Asia Region. Considering the need to discuss progress made in promotion of physical activity in WHO south east Asia region including sharing best practices and launching of ‘Regional Roadmap for implementation of Global Action Plan for Physical Activity (GAPPA), a virtual regional meeting was organized in collaboration with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation and International Health Policy Programme Thailand.
