Supporting capacity building for risk mitigation of high threat pathogens in Member States. IHM collaborates with other units within WHO’s Health Emergency (WHE) department in areas pertinent to risk mitigation. With the Country Health Emergency Preparedness & International Health Regulations (CPI) unit, it helps build core capacities of International Health Regulations (2005) in Member States, especially related to laboratory, zoonotic diseases and human -animal interface.
In terms of risk identification and risk assessments, IHM supports capacity building for detection and early warning, alert and response to seasonal and zoonotic influenza and Pandemic Influenza Severity Assessment (PISA).
