Overview
Addressing the complex social determinants of health (SDH), including those related to socioeconomic, cultural, political, and social and environmental conditions, requires in-depth understanding of the disparities, inequities and structural power relations that encroach on people's health. This Regional Strategic Framework on Social Determinants of Health Actions (2023–2030) is developed in consultation with WHO Member States of the South-East Asia Region and experts. It builds on the lessons learnt during the COVID-19 pandemic, the socioeconomic crises that followed, and climate change issues, and attempts to make recommendations to achieve better social conditions for health and well-being.
The Regional Strategic Framework will guide Member States to prepare strategic actions for future trends in sociodemographic transition and economic changes that will positively impact the health of the people. It provides appropriate tools and approaches to address vulnerable conditions and guide health professionals and programmes to accelerate actions incorporating health determinants. It also provides a suggested monitoring framework and benchmarks for implementation across the timeline between 2023 and 2030.
