    About us
Within the WHO global strategy described in the GPW13, towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals, the WHO Radiation and Health Unit works to strengthen radiation protection of the public, patients and workers worldwide.
RAD provides Member States with evidence-based guidance, tools, technical advice and capacity building on public health issues related to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Activities are conducted in the following areas:
1. Ionizing radiation
- Radiation emergencies
 - Existing exposures
 - Planned exposures: medical uses of radiation 
 
2. Non-ionizing radiation
- Electromagnetic fields
 - Optical radiation, including ultraviolet radiation
 - Infrasound and ultrasound
