Strengthening health information systems for decision-making in countries
High-quality health information is essential for responding to specific health needs, monitoring progress and evaluating the impact of health programmes. It is also vital to making good public health decisions and informed policy-making. However, challenges remain for most developing countries in terms of their capacity for data collection, dissemination and analysis, where they are unable to capture an accurate picture of their health situation.
As countries work toward attaining universal health coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the demand for reliable and accurate data is imperative. To be able to assess their starting point and track their progress against global health priorities, countries need robust and reliable health information systems.
WHO Western Pacific Regional Office is responsible for:
- Strengthening the health information systems of the Member States for collecting timely, reliable and disaggregated data.
- Promoting well-functioning CRVS through multi-sector engagement.
- Encouraging data use for decision making across all levels.
