The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for the Western Pacific will convene the Fourth Regional Forum of WHO Collaborating Centres in the Western Pacific from 28 to 29 November 2022 in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

For the Future: Towards the Healthiest and Safest Region articulates a shared vision for WHO’s work with Member States and partners to make the Western Pacific the world’s healthiest and safest region. The vision was adopted by the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific in October 2019. It is also the Region’s implementation plan for the global WHO Thirteenth General Programme of Work 2019–2023, which the World Health Assembly recently extended to 2025. Aligned with the global plan, the regional vision reflects the shared challenges arising from the unique demographic, economic, social and geographic characteristics of the Western Pacific. WHO in the Region conducted in 2021 a stocktaking of the implementation of For the Future, which concluded that the vision is still valid and has become more pressing because of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. To help accelerate its implementation, WHO in the Region must continue to broaden and strengthen partnerships.

Building on lessons identified and progress from the three previous Forums, this Fourth Regional Forum will focus on the findings of the For the Future stocktaking review and the role of WHO Collaborating Centres in accelerating the implementation of this vision in countries.

Objectives of the Forum:

1. Reflect on how WHO and WHO CCs have worked together - since the last Forum, the endorsement of For the Future, and throughout the COVID-19 response - to advance the regional vision.

2. Identify opportunities to maximize the contribution of WHO CCs to WHO’s work in countries to respond to current and future health challenges.

3. Explore mechanisms for more effective ways of working between WHO and WHO CCs in the Region for accelerated implementation of For the Future.
